In Semester 2, 2016, I’m teaching in two units, Research Methods and Applied Design Research.
In this unit I teach first year industrial design students about physical, cognitive and emotional ergonomics. Students tend to remember this unit for the two large projects: the cardboard toilet and the foam camera.
Applied Design Research
In this capstone Industrial Design unit, students work for the whole year on a project of their own choice. With senior colleagues and a team of experienced tutors, I work with the students as they research the background to their project and propose a design intervention in the first semester. In the second semester, this unit continues as students conduct more focussed research to guide their design development before producing a prototype design which is displayed at the Industrial Design end of year show.
