What I learned at TSXPO

Today I was at TSXPO, speaking with prospective university students about Industrial Design.

The most common question was “what is industrial design?”

The high-school students I spoke with were concerned about the experience of university. They wanted to know what the assignments were like, what the workload was like and what subjects they needed to study at school to do well in (Industrial) Design at university.

The parents I spoke with were concerned with their child’s pre- and post-university prospects. They wanted to know the entry score for the course and if there were prerequisite school subjects for entry into the course. They also wanted to know about the sort of jobs Industrial Designers get and whether there are many Industrial Design jobs in Brisbane.

I also spoke briefly with one high-school teacher. He wanted to make sure he was teaching the right CAD software and that he was advising students to the right career paths.
